I am trying to get together my new DAW.

Equipt I have:

2.1 ghz AMD Athlon Laptop configured for Nuendo
with 512 RAM and 40 gig 5400 HD

Maudio Duo USB sound card.

Orchestral, Absynth several VSTi's and a ton of Plugs.

Behringer B1 (I know but with mic modeling it seems to work well enough)

An ISO booth and a control room filled with baffles and a couple of bass traps.

I also have:
3 other computers:

PIII 900 mghz with 20 gig hd and 256 meg ram
PIV with 1.2 ghz 60 gig hd and 256 meg RDram
the PIII is my wifes computer but she is a singer.
the PIV is for video production and some business, but I can do a lot of switching that around.

I got a lot of computers. What I want to do is record, (hence the project studio) and playout using the primarily the same gear. This means portablity will be the supreme thing.

To record I need no more then a stereo A/D since I will be mixing in the box. I need to record electric guitar, Bass, and acoustic as well as vocals. Now my duo is ok but I realized to play out I needed more inputs and outputs then the duo has. Not to mention the A/D conversions are the best.

I have compression plugins galore as well as modeling and the such. And I would get several high priced preamps but I cant afford great ones this time around. I will also start collecting better mics as well when I feel the B1 is no longer good enough and I might invest right off with a SP B1. As well as a couple of sm57's

I am trying to keep below $1500.00 ( I had more but room conditioning was a lot) Here is what I am looking at now:

Presonus firestation: Gives me preamps and enough in and outs at good quality A/D 24/96 and my laptop will take a pcmcia firewire adapter. And then midi in my midiman. And its about 499 new 450 ebay.

Yorkville ysmp1 monitors: 450.00

Mics and chords: 250.00 So looking at about 1200.00 in other ideas? Do you think this will work? What would you suggest to get? Even if it goes over on the budget?

Do you guys think I should incorporate other programs to mix in other then Nuendo? And do you think I should upgrade one or 2 of my desktops and use them with a new sound card that would give me better results for less then the firestation?

I know about the Motu gear afraid os using it with an AMD chip set. And it is a lot higher and I didnt hear a huge diffeence int he A/D conversion (actually none to my ears) And the preamps were (to my ear) better in the firestation. At least a little.

I will be using the Duo as a premp pretty much if I need to for live performance but any help you can give would be great!!

And if you could post what your DAW is that would be helpful to:)

I know how helpful it was to see everyone recording studios:)

Thanks

You need a separate 7200 rpm hd.

My daw is as follows:

P4 2.4 ghz
1 gig DDR 2700 speed ram
80 gig system hd
120 gig audio hd
Intel 845 chipset

Xlnt i will add that to my list thanks:)

Anybody else have any ideas. Or can they put there DAW equipt up?

G5 Dual 2 w/ 8 gig of ram
4 200 Gig 10000 RPM Drives
Pro Tools HD2 w Apogee Converters

The parts of this list that are most useable are the fact that I have maxed out my RAM and have multiple drives for recording and playing back audio. Also, when looking at a DAW look for it to be expandable and upgradeable without having to remove anything from a computer. Converters, converters, converters and a good clock.

Later,
musik
