I have a 58A I purchased used awhile back. It was making a little bit of a rattle noise so I unscrewed it to take a look. First the capsule part ? would not come out of the grill, is this normal? I found out that a washer is whats rattling below the rubber fitting at the top of the body. Anyway, after realizing this was beyond me I attempted to screw the mic back together and managed to cut the green and yellow wires coming out of the body and attaching to the capsule part. Of course the mic is dead now, just wondering if it is an easy repair to solder the wires back to the capsule and if so which side does each wire go to. It looks like there are a couple of contact points on the capsule. Here are a couple of pictures to try and explain what I see. I can take more if I need to. I know I'm a dumb ass, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you cut the wires or were they broken in the first place? Generally, you are supposed to be able to rmove the grill without that entire cartrdige coming off the whole body of the mic. YOu can send that mic to the service department and see what they have to say.

I finally got the capsule out of the grill and found out what was going on. I am wondering if someting is wrong with the capsule because whoever I bought this from had wrapped electric tape around it. I may end up sending it in to Shure to see what they say.

My recommendations:
1. Go to www.shure.com, to their support page, and download the pdf file of the sheet to fill out for repair/replacement of microphones. Print it out.
2. Fill it out, with credit card number.
3. Put mic only (keep the clip, bag, etc.) and filled out form in box and send to the address on the form.
4. Shure will charge you $65 for repair of a Beta mic. They will destroy your existing mic (you already helped them with that process.
5. Receive from Shure, new in the box with all accessories, a brand new Beta 58A.

What could be easier. The best deal in town. Enjoy.

you do know the yellow tape is there to isolate the fine coil/diaphragm wire? its actually an insulator, with the fine wire in between the sticky part of the tape, if thats what you meant?

if you break the microscopic coil wires your really hosed...imo. There should be two of these tiny, coil wires going to the solder joint...

I only see one in your pic soldered, the other other fine wire appears to be broken or dangling (2nd pic).

the other, larger/thicker wires, in the first pic, are going to the transformer and belong on the same solder lugs the fine microscopic wires should be soldered to.

you may have a chance at soldering these for repair.
maybe a pro could do the tiny coil wire's...i sure as hell couldn't.

your no dumbass though...those things are a bitch to open and a bitch to repair..imo. good luck.

Alright, so I am going to go ahead and send it in for repair. But just to clarify, I didnt destroy the damn thing, it was like that when I bought it off of ebay. The moron before broke it. I am just the moron who didnt know it was broken for a year after I got it  Thanks for the tips

Hello everyone, for people who have encountered the same problem and want to repair the microphone, I did it this way:
the two thin (very thin) cables must be soldered in the area under the caps. Remove the transparent tape and lift the piece of black plastic at the cable exit, visible from the front (do not try to remove the internal cap, it is not necessary and you risk breaking something). To strip the mini cables, use small tweezers and glasses or magnifying glasses. If necessary, try to burn the cables slightly to ensure that the plastic shrinks and the metal part comes out. Solder the two cables, yellow on the left and green on the right at the point where they were before (you can only see two terminal points of the circuit so you cannot make mistakes). Place a piece of black tape to ensure a strong seal. Put the original tape around the cap or place a new one on the cap and everything will work again
