I am trying to record a fingerstyle piece with my Godin Multiac Encore using a Behringer guitar to USB cable connected to my computer. However, there is this growling sound somewhere around the 100-250hz region. I have tried EQ-ing it out but I can't get rid of it without making the recording sound thin. I am also trying to achieve a tone similar to hironou2525 (also has a Multiac but the Duet model) on Youtube. I am new to recording so any help would be much appreciated.

I have attached the recording done in FL Studio 9 with no adjustments

You probably need to adjust the tone sliders on the guitar, but the big problem is probably that Behr USB converter - cheap A-to-D conversion is not what you want. Get a quality audio interface with an instrument input.

I'm not hearing any growl', just the lower string tones sticking out. I tried a dip at around 120 half to three quarter octave? More better likely would be to move the mic -away from the from directly at the face, from the neck towards the body or from a bit above looking down? You might find it mellows upper tones as well. Experiment.

Would it be okay if you posted your EQ of it? I am recording through the guitars pickups.

I just had a listen to some hironou2525 stuff. I must say...I think the "tone" he's got is very narrow and hollow sounding, and the raw one you have here is much nicer. I don't hear any bottom end boominess, I just hear a nice full guitar sound. :p

He does have a bit of reverb on his, that gives it a bit of a sense of spaciousness, if that's what you're after. But don't go overboard with it :p

You mean eq your track?

I had assumed you had tried EQing it in your previous post. If you didn't then nevermind.

I'm going to try plugging it into in actual audio interface and see how that goes. Thanks for the replies :thumbs up:

I just eq'd during the live playback.
