Hi , i new here , and i need yout help , o play on a rock band , recently i saw a second hand AKG D 190 , and i like to know is compared sm57 better or not
the mic cost around 50$

The D190 is a discontinued live and studio dynamic which in many ways, is very much like SM58, more than SM57. $50 is a good price, $70-$80 bucks seems to be about standard. Like a Shure, they're very durable. You can run them over with a truck, then check the truck for damage. Like most AKG dynamics, I find that they have a more detailed high end than the Shures, but tend to be more harsh in exchange. If you like a smooth mic that sits well in a mix, you'll like the Shure. If you want a vocal mic that will jump out at you, you'll like the AKG. I think you'll find the 2 mix badly, though, especially on stage.
In short, I think the 57 is the better mic for cabs, instruments, drums, and for some singers. I think the D190 is the better mic for a really good vocalist. Me and my former partner Maureen Fleming used to have a D190 and an SM58, and in spite of the fact that I had used the 58 for years with no problem, we had to get another D190 because she was blowing me and my 58 off the stage. Anyway, that's my $.02 worth.-Richie
