I recently purchased the adat studio pack and I believe that i only have 8 mic ins for recording on the mixer to the adat. im kinda sure that i cant record on evry strip in the mixer is this true and if so then with out useing the aid of bounceing i only have the ability to record with 8 mics.

I looked at the configuration of the Alesis mixer and it looks like you are quite correct.

You could route 2 of the multitrack inputs from the 2-buss output and when you want to use eight mics to record down to a stereo signal, you route all the channels to the buss and record on 2 tracks on the ADAT.

Welcome to the routing limitations of "cost-effective" gear!

Kind of like how you have to run your ADAT outputs INTO a Mackie preamp to mix on your console eh Bruce? ;)

But Bear is right, you are going to be limited.

Hey now... we all have our crosses to bear!!! :p

But actually, I beleive on their small-format mixers, that is the case... in their analog 8*buss (such as mine), the tape returns DON'T pass thru the pres - they have their own multi-track returns distinct from the pre inputs... which is probably why I find I can work with the board as much as I do!
