Ok guys and gals. I am back with a serious question (well it is for me ). I am starting record to with with digital recordings now instead of playing around with the digital. Problem is I have no studio room for this yet and was wondering ... serious problems. I have my system set up with these measurements as I had no choice. My desk, speakers, computer, the whole 9 yards is set up right smack an the wide open passage space between the kitchen and living room . I have a 16x16 kitchen directly in front of me with no wall :( and a 16' x 20' living room behind me. My question is: I was thinking of a temp. wall in font of me with some cardboard up for a wall and putting up some U-Haul packing blankets 2" back from the temp. wall for some kind of acoustic treatment and the same behind me. I need some recording space for now and this is all I could do if it will work as it is not my place and not allowed to build. I am open to any sugjestions . Thanks in advance. Steven

Why not simply use the living room?

It's a a big enough room.

bad acoustics. widows all over, carpet floor, wall to wall furniture. all my wife's. :(

So what is the size of the area you are hoping to work in, and what kind of recording do you want to do?

If you have this: "widows all over, carpet floor, wall to wall furniture" (and I assume there are no lost-looking women but there is lots of glass), it seems like a jumbled-up kind of room which may work ok.

I can't imagine a passage way is going to be better . . . but it depends on what's in it and how boxy it sounds.

Do a diagram with measurements showing so we can get a better idea of what you've got. A cardboard wall with moving blankets is not going to do much for you. And your wife won't like it either!

I would have apx. 8' across in front and go back about 9 feet and at that spot would only be out only 6' or 6 1/2 feet . I would have to move a couple of medium size things and it would be and empty space with my desk, computer, monitors, and some rack stuff. I would then set the amp about a foot away from the back wall upon a short 6" or 8" stand because of the carpet.

see my reply to gecko's post as for the dimensions of my "space". I would build some frames from 1 x 4's with a notch cut about a 1/4" from the cardboard wall and another notch out 1 1/2"'s out from that on the top and put a 1" piece across the bottom up about 3" from the floor with same notching. then wrap then wrap and staple tight as possible so as not to rip it. this would be so as I could move them to save my marriage :)

Sorry, not understanding your dimensioned description. A picture's worth a hundred words or so ...
