Help wiring my mixer

OK, I'm finally making some steps towards getting my rinky dink home studio up and running. I purchased a Yamaha 10/2 and a Studio Projects B1. Right now I just have Rec Out (rca) going to my Line In on my computer using a Y-adaptor. My computer speakers are plugged into the sound card like normal then I have a headphone jack on my speakers that I use to monitor. I was messing around and plugged my headphones into the mixer using a 1/8 - 1/4 adaptor and damn it sounds so much better. I am now determined to find a way to be able to always monitor the sound from the mixer instead of the sound card.

I'm not sure if this will work, but I was planning on running Master Out (1/4) to the Line In on my card using a stereo splitter. Then run Line Out on my card back to the mixer into the 2TR In. I would then connect my computer speakers to the Rec Out using a Y-Adaptor. Finally I would be able to plug in my headphones to the Phones output.

I'm new to all of this so my question for you is will this work? I wasnt sure if having the signal sent to back to the mixer would affect the mic signal.

What kind of soundcard do you have?

I would think with this setup, mic to pre to channel 1, use the Aux 1 send to the input to the soundcard (if it's a normal pc soundcard) and the output from the card into track two and turn the Aux 1 fader for that channel all the way towards 2. Plug your phones straight into the board.


EDIT - Doing it like this will allow you to assign what channels from the board will be routed to the input on the soundcard so you can play back audio from the PC through (in this case Channel 2) and still record through the mixer without recording the playback signal again.

Oh, pretty much the same thing I said above just disregard the mic and pre part and substitute it with whatever it is your are recording with. From the board on would all be the same.

This card would work out better than a standard soundcard. I have the Delta 410 and love it.

Most people cringe at the mention of Behringer but I have zero complaints, I love this board! I use either loops or midi interface for percussion so I mostly use the board for recording guitars/bass/vocals and then playback and mix. Works out pretty well for what it is.
 
ok, I am starting to wrap my head around this one. My one question then is where would I plug in my speakers to?
 
The bigger question is, what type of recording are you doing?

You could use any of the outputs really, the main outs, headphone outs, monitor send, whichever you prefer for your speakers. Though if you are using a microphone you would want to go with the phones so the mic isnt picking up the speakers. I'm currently not even using speakers with my setup, just phones to the board, or at the ass end of my chain at the CDR
