Im buying a new 4x12 guitar cab at th end of the week and I dont know whether to buy a Trace Elliot TRAMP412FS or a Behringer BG412S (part of the new ultra stack range) I use a Oberhiem rack mount FX unit and the cab will be powered by a bog standard rack amp either (100w or 400w depending on wich cab I buy. If I get the trace cab I might buy a trace head even though I will just be using the FX return on it to plug my Oberhiem into) I need to know which cab has the warmest and sharpest sound!
In my band I use alot of marshall and Randall type distortions and flanged/delayed/choursy type cleans.
The behringer has a larger power rating and has more features but behringer are not as renound for guitar amplification as trace! I use a lot of behringer rack products in my studio and this has a good sound quality to money ratio but Im not sure how good the behringer cab will be!

Cheers if any one can help!

more on behringer

just curious to see more on there stuff...I just bought a smaller amp of they'res and I'm most satisfied...a gx112...I know they've got tons o rack stuff too...anyhow ya I'm likin it...

I have used alot of behringer rck gear and its ok!

Im not sure about which cab to get at all! The main reason lies on that the trace carries celestions which will sound nice but the behringer carries Jensen speakers. But the behringer can be used as a stero cab and can be driven at 400w! :S so I dont know wghat to do now! I have got until nxt thursday to decide!!
So can any one give me any more help??

Can you play through them both and see which one you like better?

No unfortuantly! Im buyin them over the internet and there are no music shops around me that stock the Behringer cab or the Trace elliot cab! Thats why I need advice off people on here!

No luck. I went over there and checked to see if they had any reviews up and they don't. Sorry.

Lets see....

The Trace Elliot cab is probably covered in green tolex, does that matter to you? I used to have a Trace Elliot Super Tramp half-stack and it was all green tolex. I really liked it. The cab itself was top quality stuff, as almost anything Trace ever put their name on.

Behringer is trying to make a place in the flooded "make a buck off guitar players" market. I see no raves about their stuff, I played one of their new amps and it sucked big time. I am playing with other professional musicians and have not seen any Behringer stuff in anyones setup.

The decision is really up to you...and can rest on many factors. I'd bet a couple bucks the Trace sounds better, though. And I NEVER bet unless I KNOW I'm going to win :)

Oh, I wanted to add this too...

If you play rock, you want Celestion speakers.

400 Watts???!!!???? Why in god's name would you ever need 400 watts for a guitar? If you had 400 real watts, like out of a good tube amp watts, I'm sure someone on this board can figure out the math that the amp would make you DEAF as my grandmother if you turned it up past 5. I play out a 50 watt Marshall Tube Head (@16 ohms too) and I swear if I ever turn the thing past 6 in my LOUD band situation I overpower everyone (although this isn't as bad as my other guitarist who plays a Mesa Dual at 100 watts and 4 ohms, who can't turn up past 4). Go for the Trace, Behringer is "bang for the buck", but the buck being so low their shit sucks. Trace makes REAL equipment, and have a good name for themselves in the guitar community.

Hey crazy,

I've got one of those Behringer BG412S cabs coming this week at some point (ordered from Thomann).

Like you I've had to make a purchase via the internet without trying it and mine is coming all the way from Germany.

Looking at the specs it all sounds good, Jensen speakers are used by Mesa Boogie in their vintage range but obviously with guitar cabs it's dependent on their wood and the build that provides the sound.

I've played through the newer Marshall 4x12's with Celestions in and they sucked, really boxy and the Valve State range even boxier.

So, I figured I'd give Behringer a shot, currently I'm using a Red Bear 4x12' that is just too beefy plus I can sell it and get cash to afford two BG412S but I'm not going to buy two unless they're that good :)

I'll crank it up as soon as I get it and let you know :)

These are cool, made-to-order wiring, great prices with Celestions and bettter prices with Eminence speakers, and they get really good reviews on harmony-central. I believe if you call them they'll put in whatever speakers from either line you want, and price your cab accordingly.

As far as the wattage goes, the loudest tube guitar amp I've ever seen was 280 watts. More common and really loud is the Ampeg V4 at 160, that amp never needs to go above 3. If you feel the need to use 400 watts, maybe what you really need is another 4x12... a full stack.

BTW, when Behringer says "All of our ULTRASTACKs are ruggedly built, using environmentally-friendly E1 MDF boards" that's just another way to say they make their cabs out of particle board instead of solid wood or plywood. DON'T GO THERE.

Hey thanx for all the help every one! the specs for the trace cab are on www.traceelliot.com and the specs for the behringer cab are on the www.behringer.de site so if any one else can offer any more advice and has used either cab I wud be thankful for what they can offer me!

The celestion speakers in Valvestate cabinets are cheap crap made especially for the Marshall Valvestate budget line. The Vintage30's and Greenbacks are still 2 of the finest speakers made today. I think the 1960 cabinets get the vintage 30's or a similar speaker.

Dude, if you're in the UK you should have spotted for an Orange cabinet, or a Matamp cab. They're nearly impossible to find here in the states, and they're the finest stuff out there.

And Charger is right about particle board, you dont want to use it in a speaker cabinet.....unless its for your car.

Well, seeing as I have no choice now (it's in the country) :)

I guess I'm gonna have to be the one to give the Behringer speaker cab a shot and see how it goes. If anything it'll actually get the truth to the people. No one has tried it, we can't say either way - behringer have surprised people before so let's see.

Admittedly I'm a little more optimistic about the cab than others on this board because er...well I've bought one.

It'll be getting a bit of road use once I've got my sound sorted with it so we'll see how it copes.

Remember this cab goes for £200 over in Europe, it would cost me more than that just to buy the Jensen speakers inside it (which I may well fit into my Red Bear and replace the tossy full range Axioms) if the cab sucks. BUT I think it will be okay (Fingers crossed).

Stay tuned for the next exciting installment when Rich gets his German cab and reports back...(play end credits)

You have to record some stuff with it for us too, we want to hear it!

Yeah the bheringer cab does look alrigth that why i want to give it a ago cos thye ahve made some quality price point stuff! And I rekon the celestions in the Trace will be simular to the valve state ones! I suppose I just like to have decent names on my equipment!

I want all the advice I can get please! and any other suggestions of other cabs in thei prics range! Which is Bout £230 or that is about $325 in america but I will have to pay p&p to the UK! :(
C ya later! c r a z y is siging out for now to look at some laney cab and see if my new mac has turned up yet for my studio!
