This is purely for future reference.

Currently, i have a stock soundcard (quite craptacular)

I use a Johnson Jstation for guitars/bass.
GuitarTracks (came w/ Jstation) currently. (Sonar doesnt work w/ my soundcard)

I would like a card (sound card, something) that will allow 8 or so inputs, and software than can get each input onto its own track.
So, when my band is ready, we can mic the drumset (5-6mics should do it, i think) and recording it on computer (using Guitar Tracks/Sonar). XLR preferably, so I can get basic mic (SM58 or similar) and then run them thru a mic sim possibly w/o having to get convertors involved.

Also, would like S/PDIF I/O. Since Jstation has S/PDIF out.

Does everyone get what i'm sayin? :)

thanks

You got a mixer with inserts?

If so, you can use the preamps on that, and get a Delta 1010Lt. I recommend it highly. It's worked well for me.

If not, then you're SOL. Just kidding. There's a few brands/models out there that already have preamps built in to the breakout box (not sure which ones off the top of my head).

Man, I was no help on that one, was I? :)

..hmm..

I have access to an 8channel mixer. But i dunno what it can or cannot do.

Let me know how to setup what ur talking about. And i'll find out if that mixer can do that :)

thanks.

As Chessrock said, an external mixer would be the best bet with an affordable 2 or 4 chl. stereo input. I say a mixer because your looking for multiple mic. inputs with preamps.
