hi all

I just purchased an m-audio mobile pre, along with a shure sm57. I'm recording stuff using acid 4.0...but it doesn't seem to be going so well. anything that I record only lets me hear it out of the left side...for example, when I plug headphones into the mobilepre to listen to myself, i can only hear out of the left ear. when i plug speakers into the mobile pre, i can only hear out of the left speaker, and when i record things, it only plays out of the left side of whatever i'm listening through. anybody know how to fix this? I'm new to this and i have no clue. should i just install the recording software that came with the mobilepre...the delta live or osmething like that? anyone know if my settings on acid 4 are wrong? thanks.

EDIT:

well i figured out that if i plug the mic into channel 1, it only goes to the left side, if i plug it into channel 2, it goes into the right side. anyway to just make one mic go to both sides?

Well, there's not really much point in recording a single mic to a stereo track.
You can have Acid record a single input to a mono track (via the record window area for Recoding device - scroll box), which you in turn pan to taste within the stereo image.

As far as the software that came with your mobile pre, I would assume there must be at least some form of drivers for it that offers a control panel.

Okay, how do I do this with adobe audition 1.5

I want to just record the acoustic guitar through the one channel and have the sound come through both sides. What do I have to do to get it this way? What settings or whatever do I have to change?

Can't help ya with Audition .... I've never used it, though it's my understanding it doesn't offer input monitoring.
So you have to use direct hardware monitoring, which is explained to some extent in the manual for the MobilePre.
You may even want to make sure you have a current driver for it.

Is there a mono/stereo switch somewhere on the unit? If so, set it to mono if you are only using one channel. That will send the signal to both sides of the headphones.

If not, which input are you using: XLR, 1/4", or 1/8"? The 1/8" is a stereo input designed for stereo microphones. Instead, use XLR or 1/4" TRS.

when i try to record single input, i'm assuming you mean to go to the scroll box and choose either the right only or left only. however when i try to record through one of these, it says an error occured and then acid turns off. acid causes so many problems for me, does anyone know how i can do this through adobe audition? help would be extremely appreciated.
