I am having a hard time deciding which computer to upgrade to for my recording. (Pc or mac)I would like to get a laptop but am not sure if the results can be as good. I do however hear that the g4 laptop is pretty good. Does anyone use a laptop and get the same results as they did with a desktop? I mean, if you had a choice that was not based on money, just sheer preference, which would you choose?

Unless you are going to be doing LOTS of mobile recording, get a desktop. The flexibility of real PCI slots is valuable, plus easy upgradeability for every system componant.

If your knowledgeable enough, build your own system. For professional recording, full tower is the best choice.
I hear that macos are better for recording but you have to learn the system. I would go with PC.
Pentium III or 4
Good Motherboard, maybe CLUS2 by ASUS
256 ram will be sufficiant
Dual fast hard drives 20 to 40gb, 1 dedicated to audio
SCSI drives if you can afford it
OS Win98 or up
High end software such as pro tools, logic audio or cubase
High end PCI card 24bit
and of course a high quality CD writer
You can build this example system from 1,000 to 2,000 bucks.

GOOD LUCK
