Im recording with Cakewalk Sonar and I seem to be having alot of dropouts and its at the wrong time.. I have to get a couple of songs done for this Soundtrack.. Please help me

I Have the following

Athlon XP
1.67 Gig Processor
768 DDR Ram
80 Gig Hard drive
M-Audio Audiophile 2496
Phonic MM 1002a Mixer

Please tell me what I have to do to get my Sonar running smoothly and perfect

You will probably get more answers in the Cakewalk forum.

Are you running any plugins?

heheh, as if there was a "right time" for dropouts.

Besides the number of plug-ins... how many tracks are there and how much memory do you have?

If you're just hitting the ceiling of what your machine can handle, one solution is to submix some of the tracks down to stereo to reduce the number of plug-ins and tracks you have to process.

Memory is 768 DDR

I heard something about Latency Controls and stuff.. does that have anything to do with it

IMO the specs of your machine are pretty much up to standard. I use one with similar specs (though a P4) and I can get tons of plug-ins in for over 16 tracks easy. Usual question though:

-What is your operating system?

If you're using Windows XP go here: http://www.sospubs.co.uk/sos/mar02/articles/pcmusician0302.asp

I lost my links on Optimizing for Windows 98, but if you're using this OS like I am, start by shutting off all start up programs. You might be running something else while you're using Sonar.

Lets try this again, more slowly.

How... many... tracks... are... you... pushing? And... how... many... real-time... plug-ins... are... you... running?

Try to rise the latency under Options -> Audio. Use the slider. :)
