Hi everyone i´m going to buy a distortion pedal. I "play" bass guitar and i want a really-distorted pedal, i mean i don´t want a sweet distortion.
I have many pedals in mind but i need your wisdom. For example: Big muff, boss distortion, ebs...
It will be perfect a pedal with great gain and sustain but without lose the deep low end, i mean i don´t want a electric guitar.
Thanks a lot.

This probably won't have as much distortion as what you're looking for, but a friend of mine uses an original Ibanez Tube Screamer on his P-bass and it sounds awesome. Not overly distorted, but satisfyingly crunchy.

The DOD FX86 (I think!)-- the Death Metal pedal, black with red paint drips/streaks and knobs labeled "RIP", "Pain," "Guts," and "Scream." Sound cheesy? It is, on guitar... but on bass it KILLS, in my opinion. It's got that growly, grunting grindcore-style distorted bass tone, like the Eastern European gore-grind bands. The pedals were like $80 new a few years ago, should be way cheaper now. They're a little noisy, but it seems to matter much less on bass than on guitar. You'll find yourself turning the "Guts" (bass knob) down, you'll have so much low end. Pure nastiness!!

This pedal and my Vox V846 wah are my only pedals... I've owned this Death Metal pedal for years, and have used it in almost any situation you can think of... True, for guitar, it sucks balls (polite understatement) unless you need a *strange* sound... But for bass it friggin' kills for sure. It's much more easily controlled for a bass, and gets a great either lo-fi or grinding distortion to it. You can get them new from Musicians friend for around $40 or less sometimes, and probably half that on ebay. Right now I'm looking to replace it with a Boss American Metal Pedal for guitar, but still going to keep it for bass.

Another option that I used to love is the Electro-Harmonix BassBalls. It's not a straight distortion per se, because it has dynamic filters that give it vowel-like tones depending on how you attack the strings. But you could probably use the distortion mode and tone down the filtering for an interesting sound. It's a cool effect.

Prescription Electronics Depth Charge sounds really great, it has a "blend" function that really works.......

But, I used a Mesa rectum fryer for bass once, you can`t beat that!!!

I have the death metal pedal. It rules on bass! I tune my bass to B and it F'ing rumbles. I think it sounds better with a downtuned guitar or bass. People bash this pedal alot but I still havnt found another pedal that can compair to it as far as distortion goes. All hail the metal of death!
