The mixer will be used mainly for LIVE VOCALS; the background music would be provided by a recording from a cd player connected to the mixer, so many inputs would be irrelevant.
Three of my friends have SoundCraft Spirit FX8 mixer for their karaoke systems. The sound quality is very good thanks to the Lexicon effects (their speakers are home theater systems from either Sony, Audio Research, or Onkyo). However, this mixer has too many mic inputs (8 to be exact) for my need.
I did some research before posting this. Overall, SoundCraft seems to be the preferred middle-class brand of mixer that won't cost an arm and a leg to purchase. The Spirit FX8 costs too much for my budget; it costs a bit about $550. Other smaller SoundCraft mixers don't seem to have the Lexicon effects.
Do you guys have any suggestion for a mixer with:
-internal effects (preferably as good as Lexicon effects or better)
-4 Mic channels or fewer
-a price of less than $300?
