I just bought an audiophile 2496 card (which is my pc's only soundcard) and I'm a little confused on how to hook everything up. I have computer speakers but they they have a 1/8 jack but the soundcard has rca jacks so can I still plug them into the soundcard with an adapter? Right now I'm connecting the outputs of the soundcard to a keyboard amp. Is that ok to use instead of computer speakers? If I buy monitors can I connect them dircectly to soundcard. How does all this work?

Just think of your computer as a tape deck . It will hook up just the same. If you have taken the plunge and got the audiophile, Its time to improve the amp and speakers too.

? If I buy monitors can I connect them dircectly to soundcard. How does all this work?

If you get "passive" monitors.

Wait a minute...

If the soundcard has line out, then you'll need ACTIVE monitors to connect directly to the soundcard.

Active = has a built-in amp = Event 20/20 bas
Passive = you'll need to buy an amp = Event 20/20

If you're looking at active monitors, also check the JBL LSR25P, and the new 'baby' Mackies.

Depends a bit on your budget....

I use the passive 20/20s with a 1000 watt power amp connect directly to my audio interface. It rocks. The mixes I make on the 20/20s sound good every where I play them. Before I got the 20/20s everywhere I took my mix, it would either sound bassy or tinny. Now the mixes work everywhere!

Audiophile 2496

The user name says it all!

I want to transfer (& restore) a lot of LP's to CD.

Equipment on hand:
Stanton direct drive TT
Gemini 2 channel mixer
Audiophile 2496 card
SB Live Platinum card
HK 2.1 speakers

What else might I need?
How do I hook it all together?
Please, I am more than expert w/the computer but on this I need details.
Thanks in advance.

Spinsterwun:

Forgot to mention those.
I have:
Steinberg Clean
Diamond Cut
Cool Edit

Look into the following:
SoundForge or Wavelab (editing software)
Steinberg Clean (sort of one stop shopping for what you want to do, I think)
Waves Restoration Bundle (Waves makes amazing plugins, with amazing prices to match)

Thanks Spinsterwun & Queue

After: TT>Gemini mixer>Souncard IN, how do I hook up the speakers and the CD-Writer? Logic says Speakers > soundcard out. Is that right? There is no plug for the CD-RW on the 2496 card.
I told you I was a complete virgin.
