OK so I thought this would be easy but then I started reading all of this stuff about balanced and unbalanced cables, and inputs etc. I really just have a few questions.

1) Do I HAVE to use a stereo cable instead of a guitar cable?

2) When I plug it into my Delta 1010 do I have to change my inputs to 10db instead of 4db?

3) Do I run the line out of my mixer pre into the RNC and then into the 1010, or is there some other way of putting it through my mixer some how?

I would really appreciate your help here, I just want the best possible way of doing this. Thanks.

help with RNC

What type of mixer are you using?
Does it have inserts on the channels?
Normally if you are using a mic pre, the line out of the mic pre goes into the RNC and the output of the RNC into your recorder.
Look at the instruction manual.
As to levels, the RNC has enough gain to handle either -10 or +4.

I have a Soundtracs Topaz 12-4 and it does have inserts.

And Cables?

Dudleys, you can do it 2 ways. Either you use 2 balanced (TRS to TRS) cables from the inserts of 2 channels on the mixer, or you use 4 unbalanced (TS to TS)cables, 2 from the channel outs into the RNC and 2 out of the RNC to the unbalanced 1/4" jacks on your soundcard, assuming it has them. Either way, the RNC is an unbalanced unit. When you use 2 TRS cables from the inserts, you're just using each one as a pair of unbalanced cables, as a send/return, so you have one unbalanced signal traveling each way. There are 2 advantages to using 2 TRS cables. One, you only have 2 cables cluttering up the whole system, and they can be very short (read cheaper). Second, it saves inputs on your soundcard, where you need to be plugging in the line outs from your mixer. Hope this helps.-Richie
