Right now I got the Rubicon r5a from coming from some 2.1 Logetich about 2 weeks ago from Sam Ash.

These sound great. But they lack in the lows. I know I can easily get a sub but I dont want to pour to much money in monitors. But I would like to know could I get better around the $299 range. If I return these back to SamAsh and get the Bx8's from MF, I would get more watts plus some nice 8inch speakers. Not to mention I could easily save $48 from tax.

I read some of few reviews I could find on the net via Google,. Most reviews said that the bass is pretty nice, but highs are too bright. The Samash dude who sold me on the Ruby's said that the ribbon tweeters are natural and do not add coloration in my mixes. How old are the BX8(not a's)? And how new are the Rubys?

I do rap and bass is a must.
Help?

I have the BX8's and I would not call them bright at all. If they are flawed, it is more towards being "home stereo bassy," although the spectrum frequency chart provided with each speaker (actual test results for each box) does not seem to indicate such a hump. Maybe I just like my home speakers flat sounding. They don't provide subwoofer-seismic lows, but they have plenty of bass. I have the lows turned all the way down on my pair, and they are set up in mid-room, avoiding as much bass-trap effect from the walls.

I got mine on clearance in the spring, that's about when they were changed over, I guess, as I didn't see a's until the last month or so.
