I'm mixing down from my VS-840 to a stand-alone CD Burner (HHB). The signal is passing through the optical outlet of the VS-840 to the (optical) inlet of the CD Burner.

However, when I turn the Varipitch utility on the VS-840 the CD Burner no longer recognises the digital signal from the VS-840 and everything comes to a grinding halt! Why is this????

I really do need the Varipitch on the tracks that I'm currently mixing so is there anyway around this?? (without having to mx down in analogue!). Would it work if I had another (intermediate) digital piece of equipment (In & Out) between the VS-840 and the CD Burner, so as to fool the CD Burner into accepting the signal!??

No. The digital output is disabled when you enable Varipitch. Varipitch works by changing the sample-rate and as this won't then be to standard, it is impossible to use the s/pdif output.
