Hey, I'm new here so just thought I'd say hi.

Just gonna list my kit so you guys know what I'm using :
Behringer Xenyx 802 Mixer
Behringer UCA202 Sound Card (USB)
Cheap Phono Cables running from the mixer to the soundcard
Behringer Ultra-Voice XM8500 (Budget Dynamic Microphone)
Decent XLR Cables

Now the problem is that when we're recording through the computer we can hear a horrible continous low-level beeping, hissing sound which is extremely annoying. We're not 100% sure if it's coming out on the final tracks but you can definetly hear it coming through the headphones when they're turned up to a decent volume. Does anyone know what this problem is and how to fix it?

Secondly, this is probably nothing, but when I turn up the volume on the mixer and plug headphone straight into the mixer and then turn up the volume on one of the channels (empty) it gives out a loud hissing sound which is quite annoying. However, my brother thinks this is just because the channel is empty. Is this true? We're just learning how to use the equipment so would appreciate some help with this kind of thing.

Thanks in advance!

Are you recording with a laptop?
Does the sound go away if you unplug the laptop power supply?

No we're recording on a desktop computer, so unfortunately I can't check this.

When some Demo versions of software and plugins pass the free trial period, they eminate a beeping sound so that you cannot use them to record. This forces you to buy the full version.

No - it can't be that, as the sound is emmited from the mixer even when all programs are closed - but not when I unplug the soundcard from the mixer. It isn't a completely electronic beep beep, theres some hissing along with it and it sounds like it's being caused by a problem in the set up. Any ideas?

Possibly it's computer noises coming back through the mixer. Do you get variations when, say, you move the mouse, or there is other computer activity happening?

I don't think it's that. Read somewhere about AC Hum, could it possibly be that coming through one of the cables?

I know exactly what you're talking about. This happened to my old computer when it wasn't plugged into a grounded outlet. (I was using a power strip and a cheater plug.) use a grounded outlet if you can, otherwise you'll need a seperate interface.
