Apologize in advance if this is answered elsewhere I just don't have days to search.....looked in options and instructions to no avail...when I am recording vocals, on a long note, slower song, Reaper decides to fade out the end of the note! This is NOT helpful.....it takes it down to about 1/2 volume and messes up the sound, too
Ideas??
Thanks!

Are you punching in individual notes, so each of these notes is it's own media item?

If so, then check your default project settings. By default Reaper fades out the first and last couple milliseconds of each clip to ensure there are no pops. It's possible this setting got changed somehow.

If not, then what you're hearing is almost certainly not Reaper's doing. It's probably your mic technique or vocal technique, and you just don't have the sustain you think you do.

EDIT - or, are you listening without effects, or do you have a noise gate on the track?

Think I found it!

Thank you for your tips and assistance.....Actually I downloaded another recording program and found the same problem - which points more to the computer than Reaper. LOL don't think vocal sustain is the issue - have blasted churches w/o needing microphone with my strong soprano lol...but certainly would have been no way for you to know, and that certainly could be worthwhile consideration for some......

Once I did an Internet search for the "fading problem" without mentioning Reaper I found that one needs to uncheck the "auto echo cancellation" box in your recording microphone properties under "sound" in the computer control panel......I also unchecked "noise cancellation" too for good measure.....
(just in case anyone else has this problem!!)
Thanks for the help!

Oh jeez, you're going straight into your computer's soundcard? No wonder you're having problems.

Does your computer have a firewire input? There's a bunch of good, affordable Firewire recording interfaces on the market, and if not there's a ton of good USB options, too. For $100 or so, you should be able to get something that'll give you a MUCH better mic preamp and ad/da conversion, which will fix this problem and give you better sound quality to boot.

More info

I would be eager to hear and learn more about the Firewire stuff - and yes something I would like - but when you're getting all kinds of strange hints and nudges that the music HAS to get done asap...and your budget is about $20-30 per week - just enough to buy a recording program, or register a song for the week....yea it makes it quite the uphill battle - lol you should see my "world famous recording studio"....2 ft by 6 ft closet with an archway above me made of large egg flats (thanks to the nursing home!) and quilted blankets stapled on the walls.....and microphone stand in the middle - laptop sits on an old stereo speaker - but hey it is working! Plodding along with determination and creativity....I appreciate everyone's help!
