Help! Poor Latency!?

Hello!

Need some advice on souncards and latency problems.

Run an amd k62 450 pc with a SBlive 1024 card.

what is the best way to improve latency ?

New sound card or upgrade the pc to Athlon etc ?

will the Audigy sound blasters cure bad latency ?

Use Cabase VST 24 and Reason

Mainly use Reason instruments in live performance so
I need to sort this problem out!

if you mean latency in regard to the VST instruments, that is probably purely a CPU issue.....of course if a newer card has ASIO drivers that usually helps also.....

beefing up RAM a bit may not help but definitely wouldnt hurt....and its dirt cheap.....
 
The single best thing would be if you could get ASIO drivers for your soundcard. Otherwise, WDM drivers under Windows 2000 or Windows XP, but so far only SONAR supports that, so it would be a major undertaking to change all that stuff.

I know that there are ASIO drivers available for the Emu APS (Audio Production Studio) card, which is the same basic hardware as the SB Live, but I'm not sure if they would work with your model.
 
The AMD K6-2 is a pretty poor performer for audio. My suggestion would be to blow 300 bucks on an athlon + mb. I've seen some pretty cheap package deals lately.
