in need of help...
How do you actually transfer files from audio cd to mp3 so that they can be uploaded on nowhere.com? Already registered, using CDex and just can't quite get my files to upload. I keep receiving a message stating that the files I converted from ".wav to .mp3" are not MP3 files??????. I have no idea what is going on and would love to get my music posted for feedback. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Brian

Should be very straightforward. Typically, you use a program that can rip the tracks off the CD to a WAV file on your hard drive, then save them as MP3 files in your sound editing application (often the same tool that you rip the tracks with, but not necessarily).

What was your process?

agreed. step one is to "rip" or grab the files from the CD to the hard drive. I support a dandy program called "audiograbber", but theres all sorts of programs that will do this.

step two: convert the files from wav to MP3.
a footnote to step two. keep sharp and pay attention to where the converted files go, what folder they get saved in.

Its completely possible that you are accidentally trying to upload your files and grabbing the original wav. Its best to set up a seprate file in your computer for "converted MP3's" so you will always be sure where they are. It's not out of the question that you are not seeing the extension (wav, wmf or whatever) and are trying to transfer the wrong type.

I answered this for you in the songwriting forum. In case you missed it ;)

I used CDex too. It works great with the LAME encoder. Ripping a cd or converting a .wav to an .mp3 is pretty intuitive. The only thing you need to make sure you do is go into the setup area and pick your settings. I usually encode at 192 kbps, but it has all kinds of options there. I'm not sure why you are having a problem.

If you are ripping from an audio cd it should be just as easy as inserting the cd in your cdrom drive and then opening up CDex. It should automatically detect the cd in there and bring up the tracks that you can choose for ripping to mp3. They will be placed by default (depending on your OS) C:\mydocuments\mp3\ (I think & XP may throw in a couple more folders between C & mydocuments).

I don't know if this helps, but CDex should be pretty easy to use.

BTW CDex also converts from .mp3 to .wav .

thanks...

Appreciate all of the help! Have not tried to upload again, but think I better understand the file destination and the role it plays in the browse function when trying to upload the "converted" mp3 file.

Much obliged...Onward
