ok. you asked for it :).

when i listened to this the first time, i really was wondering if this was the same guy who posted the excellent guitar tune? this one has a lot of things to fix beyond the mix, which i'll comment on first.

the vocal is drowning in reverb. if you are going to use that much reverb, which i recommend against (but i always say that) try some predelay so the singer's voice can cut through the mix. i've noticed that i never hear someone suggest adding reverb to a vocal that's posted in these parts, so maybe start with....no reverb and see what happens?

the bass sounds too much like a keyboard. I know if you can play the guitar like you did before, you can surely do a passable job on a real bass guitar. mind you, all of my songs employ a roland keyboard as a bass player. i just wish i knew someone who played.

the drums sound like they are experiencing some latency artifacts. the snare always seems to hit after the hihat or ride on the same note. another phrase you'll hear me say often is, try some loops instead. the drumbeat that you have going is kinda simple so you could easily find some loops to perform that function and sound more natural in the end.

now as for the song. it didn't do much for me. kinda sounded like someone praying over a droning bass line. nothing against prayer or droning bass lines it just wasn't working for me here.

so i'll end with some positive cause i'm starting to sound pretty mean. the singer does have a very nice voice you just can't really hear it and i know you are a very talented guitarist so please post again but i wanna hear both you guys let loose (without the reverb) on the next one. too much to ask?

thanks for your reply, i realize that the song is very farcry from being perfectly recorded, there was a piano part in the song where you only hear bass now there was piano, but she couldnt quite get the part to play wright whne we recorded this, she could play it fine when we wernt recording but it would not work when that record button was pushed lol. but thanks for comenting i like negative feedback more thatn positive because you learn somthing. thanks my friend. tim pate

I don't have much to add over what was pointed out by erichenryus...in fact, I didn't have THAT much. The whole mix just sounds really blurry to me, which I think is a result of the individual tracks not being recorded all that cleanly to begin with, but I don't know really.

I will say this...I started using some drum loops recently, and people have bitched a LOT LESS about my drum sounds. Maybe that's not a good thing (since I love to give people stuff to yell about), but they at least don't stick out in a bad way. The crashes on this kinda' do stick out in a a bad way.

Good to see you back, btw.

Windows Media Player has trouble playing back some MP3 encodes, use a different player and you won't have a problem.

thanks all

i just clicked on the link for the song and it plays i dont know why its missing up, this song does sound like crap i think maybe the encoder i used messed up because i didnt test the song before i uploaded it, ill try again when i have time. its good to see you again chris been awhile,im gonna take a whole day and download some of your guyses postings i cant stream no more because i have dial up so its hard to tell how it sounds with lo-fi. but this song sounds great on cd so it must be encoder.

Hey Tim,I was expecting crap, what happened!
This sounds really good to me!
Her voice is just great, and the guitars rock.

Mabey the drums and bass could use more flavor, but that's just a time consuming programming thing, believe me I know!
I dread having to program the drums!

Man,I'm listening as I type, the vocal work is just awsome, she is a really fine singer.

If you expanded on the drums and bass, and mabey added some more of that good guitar, this song could be killer!

Here's a link to Razorlame if you need it,good encoder.-

If you need any help setting it up,let me know.

Really enjoyed it,thanks!

Have a great holiday,
Pete

hey thanks for the comments on her voice, i love her voice to i first heard her at church she sings and plays piano in our praise and worship band and i was so intrigued by her voice that i approached her and said hey i want to record you and put you on cd, she was like ive been looking for someone to do this for a long time so we hooked up and did a couple of original songs we wrote together. shes just a awesome person as well as talented. she will be very happy to hear your compliments. thanks for the link for the encoder looks great i gotta go download win zip first lol, my comp crahed hard and had to buy new hardrive so i lost everything luckily i had all my songs backed up on disk lol. ill definately get this the encoder in cakewalk takes forever and i just bought the unlock key for it to. thanks again i have another song of her that is finished and ill upload it after i encode it. thanks tim pate
