Help Please!

Hi, this is my first time posting here because i am extremely confused about recording. So far i know i want to record on my pc and all i want to do is record one guitar because i have a drum machine. What exactly do i need? What is the best sound card...internal or external.....what company....do i need a mixer if im not miking my amp...can i just use a pod without anything else? again i am extremely confused about what to get and what i do not need. I know i dont need anything studio quality since i am 14...i just want better sound than taking my metal zone pedal and plugging it straight in to my monster sound card and recording it on acid. So any suggestions about the pod...mixer...sound card are all welcome! Thanx guys!

There is no "best," just as there is no "best car."

You can start with your monster sound card and a better input source and that might be perfectly adequate for you.

If you are not going to use any mics then, sure, the POD or anything similar will be fine for your needs, and is likely to sound far better than the Boss pedal does. There are some inexpensive solutions, like the Johnson J-Station which goes for $149, and the Behringer V-Amp which goes for less than that. I myself have a POD and it's the best thing for a guitar player who doesn't have a dedent space where he can mic his amp and turn it up loud enough to get a good tone.

One tip: use the Line In of the soundcard (if it has one) rather than the mic in.

Thank you for your reply! But would i need a mixer if i got a pod or no? Also I am building a pc just dedicated to recording...just enough space and power to run acid and save my recordings so i am going to buy a sound card anyways. Do you have a suggestion for one that is not too expensive (like 150-250)? Thanx again!!!
 
No, the POD has a line level signal no no mixer is needed.

Re a recommendation, I dunno -- depends on your needs. Just guitar recorded over ACID loops? The M Audio Audiophile would be a good choice.
