am looking for a drum machine. If any of you guys (or Gals) had a couple hundred bucks to spend...Which drum machine would you choose to complement your dp01fx. I have alot of tunes and have burnt some of them but I need more beats. I havent messed with the midi sync at all and I am at that stage of learning. I dont want anything too difficult to use, but need somthing I wont get bored of too easily. I looked at ebay and the dr. rythm stuff looks ok but dont have (any)... experiance with drum machines ...any recommendations? Any response will be appreciated !

I have used Boss, Alesis and Yamaha drum machines. They're all good at different things. It depends on what kind of music you're into.
Fitting beats to a tune after the fact is difficult!
For the future, once you have the drum machine, MIDI syncing is easy, and means you can lay your tracks to a simple groove then change the drum part later.

Good luck

Drum Machine

Poparotzy,

I have a Zoom RhythmnTrak RT-223 and find it relatively easy to add drum tracks after the main acoustic guitar tracks have been recorded. The only trouble is that it has such a massive number of choices. I'm still learning as I have only had this and the Tascam DP01FX for a couple of months or so. My tunes have taken on an entirely unexpected life and been transformed.
The only real problem is with the computer reading the Tascam as mentioned in another thread. Another slight problem is with low volume on the mic vocals. Might be my old mics (Radio Shack PRO-3010) but still a work in progress. Mic blurb says they are high output!

I have the same problem with the mic volume...I run a sennhieser e815s and It is a good microphone. One thing Ive done to help is, I bought an adapter from musicians friend (CP8201 microphone impediance matching transformer by audio-technica) I plug into the a/b input like a instument instead of the three prong input...it seems to help with the volume issue. On the other issue of the P.C. not recognizing the Tascam...heres the deal. Make sure your printer/perifials are unplugged. Plug the usb cable into the computer before you open the usb window in the tascam. It will imediatly say...doesnt recognize...yada yada but once you open the usb window in the tascam you will hear the ding in the P.C. then go to my computer and you will see the wave file there if you exported your master that way. just open it and save files to another location on your P.C.and wala your done...make sure you close the tascam usb window before unplugging your usb cable from P.C. or you could corrupt your F.A.T. partition...any you have any more questions feel free to ask. I visit this site about every other day hoping for tidbits of info to help me learn more about this stuff ...

poparotzy,

Thanks for the info - I am chasing up a transformer but none in Australia that I can find. Email tonight gives me a local number to ring tomorrow.
I will follow your instructions when I next export a master track.

How about the internal metronome? Mine should have one as I received an extra page about it in the manual but I can't get it to work...yet.
