help please?

My microphone port has come loose and I can't record through it and it's definitely broken. I intend to get the soundcard repaired or get a new one but I can't afford it just yet. Is there any way I can record with the microphone without using that microphone port? I don't have a mixer and I need to make a recording very soon (the quality is not the main priority right now I just need another means to get my voice onto cool edit) Is there any way I can pass the microphone though the in socket using another device like a stereo or something? As you can see I'm pretty desperate...lol. Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated as I only have two days in which to make this recording (that looks very doubtful at the moment). Can anyone help me? Thanks...

Do you have a cassette deck with a mic input and a Line Out? That could work.

Have anything around the house that has a mic pre? Like an old 4 track or something? You could hit Radio Shack and get some various connectors and use you line inpu. Otherwise if you can get ahold of a solder gun and some solder it's not that big of a deal to simply resolder the busted port. It's probably just came out of the circuit board from contant plugging and unplugging. Depending on the quality of the card it might be cheaper to buy a new sound card if you have to buy a solder gun and solder to fix it...

yeah I have plenty of those, the problem is they don't have line outs. I have I nicam vcr with a mic imput too, but for some reason I can't get the "dubbing" feature to work on analogue. I'll keep up the search those, there's a few appliances I haven't tried yet. Thanks man.

that is what has happened to it, it's just come really loose. My brother built the comp so I'm sure he could fix it. It's a pretty decent soundcard and we got a soldering gun so that's probably what I'll ask him to do. I'm gonna just keep looking for appliances with mic input and line outs coz I ain't got long. I'm sure I'll look for a pre amp soon though, because I was reading the tutorial after posting this and the guy was saying that you shouldn't plug anything into the mic input and should always use the line in for serious recording. I never knew that...

Anyways, thanks for the advice from both of you. As I say I'm not worried about the immediate quality, I just wanted to know if this was possible for right now. I guess if I find a decent appliance soon, it is. So thanks again. It's much appreciated. Pz
