HELP!!PLEASE! Audiophile2496

So I Buy this new card so i can record my final mixes from my dat, and when I record in cakewalk express, or sondforge 6 demo, sometimes the playback is too fast(like the chipmunks, or too slow(like an old 45 at 33 rpm). Has anyone ever heard of this? Even the voice of my att connection is sometimes affected! I have windows xp, dell 8200 with 2.53 GHz and 512 ram. Im recording into the spidif in. Messing with the sampling rates doesnt seem to help. sometimes it works, sometimes it dont. About to lose my mind. Tech support is a long distance call and long hold time. Also, the input rec levels in cakewalk express have no effect on the incomming signal. can someone please shed any light on this. Thanks a bunch,

Make sure the sound card driver and software are set for the same sample rate. Most DAT's are going to be 16bit 44.1khz but there are some newer 20bit (and 24?) DAT machines.

So figure out what your DAT is sending and make sure everything else is expecting that same rate.

I believe DATs would be 16 bit @ 48KHz.

Anyhow- ther should be some M-Audio control panel that adjusts properties of the expected incoming S/PDIF signal- anyhow the 1010 works that way.

yeah, I have tried to match the sample rates up. It will work, for a song or two. I am also looking into my dat, it has a couple of different sample rates so it could be that. Is this the kind of symptom mismatched sample rates would cause? Anyone know how to control the level of the spidif line in. Neither the delta control panel nor the record levels of my recording software have any effects. Thanks guys,

hmmmm. sounds like some other application is hijacking the control of your soundcard. Be careful about running other applications like Windows Media Player, Winamp etc. between recording sessions. In other words- when recording, run only the recording application and check your settings before hitting the record button.
