I am currently trying to help out a friend who is getting started with homerecording. With a budget of about 2-3 thousand dollars, what types of mixers, keyboard and mic combinations would you all recommend?

Thanks for all the assistance...

For someone just starting out in order to strech your budget to the max, I'd skimp on everything but monitors.

1st question - what is your buddy planning to use as a recording medium (computer, hard disk recorder, adat, etc)?

2nd question - what is he planning to record (will he ever need to record more than 2 tracks at once?) and what style of music does he plan to record (will he be doing lots of vocals or live drums?)

Help me out with some details and I'd be happy to throw some specific ideas out to ya.
