If you had $300-500 for an PC interface what would you buy?

I'll only be recording 1-2 tracks at a time.

TIA!

soudns like a plan ^^^ good startup bundle fo sho.

Yep those Presonus units are good value. The firebox comes with 2 preamps, so just plug it in & you're all set

I'd get one of Lexicon's "Desktop Studio" units, there are three different flavors, Alpha, Lambda, and Omega. Check this out, you can get an Omega (the biggest of the 3) for $100 less than usual: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Lexicon-Omega-Desktop-Recording-Studio?sku=245505

The FireBox will do the same thing and that pack's a good value, so that may be a better route for you. Just wanted to let you know of some others. Go to musiciansfriend.com, and check out Recording--->Computer Hardware, or just click here. Those are a bunch of choices you have.

What works with Windows Media Center Edition? I bought an M-audio box to start out with and it is not compatible.

Why oh why didn't I buy the Mac Book Pro!

Many thanks again for all the help!
