im new to home recording and currently use kritstal software. used to have guitar tracks but it wasnt pickinup the microphone signal. do u need to buy some kind of interface? allowing me to connect severla microphones? what would be a basic minimum requirment? laptop>software>mixer?>mic?

Not a lot in your price range for laptop interfaces.

You'd need to spend $150 for the cheapest I know of - an Alesis usb unit

It's only 16 bit though, the quality is not going to tbe the best.

If you can spring for a couple of hundred, have a look at the Presonus Inspire
