Hi, I was recently asked to do opening, closing, and bed music for a local sports highlight show (local, but it's in a major market). This is my first gig of this kind. What kind of money do people ask for jobs like this. This isn't some big network "Sportcenter," "Survivor," or "Who Wants To Be A Millionare." The producer has been around T.V. for awhile, which I would think means he knows what price-ranges are for music. They don't have a huge budget, but I also don't want to get taken advantage of. If anyone could offer some advice. If not numbers, could somebody at least tell me what you base your prices on? Thanks again.

You got me confused!! You want base prices on what!!??
Equipment?? Session people!!?? Studio time!!??
Can you kindly be more specific!!??

Sorry, I have the studio, instruments, everything. How much should I charge for this project? Hope that helps.

How much is your time worth to you!?? Are you providing the customer with excellent gear and mixing/recording talents??
Will your recordings be mastered!!?? Will you be using a duplicating facility!! (for additional copies). Do you pay your own electric and gas (especially the electricity consumed when using your equipment over time for this project). Are you playing ALL the instruments AND including, the composing and the arranging
of the song/songs!!?? Will you be employing any assistance in the
completion of this project!! (I sure ask a lotta' questions, don't I!??)
The reason for these questions is to determine how much you should charge! Include extra cost's for payment of mastereing and duplication. Once you determine the answers, myself or some-1 here can give you an approximate estimate!

I take the project start to finish, mastering, everything. No duplication. No gas, no electrics, just my time on my Pro Tools TDM Mix 3 system, contol 24, the whole works, my home studio. Thanks again.

Find out the local hourly rate for studios in your area and charge accordingly. Don't sell your skills short, but also be fair if you're not up there with the "big boys" yet in terms of experience, gear, or facilities!
