Hi everyone, I have just bought a set of edrums and they aren't working! Here is the problem
I am using: Alesis DM6 drums
Cubase 5
Windows 7
M-Audio fasttrack
Now, the drums work exactly fine when I just plug some headphones into the output jack. But they sound bad, and I only really want to use the drums as a MIDI controller.
I plug the drums into my laptop with a USB cable, start up ezdrummer in Cubase, set a GM drum map, and plug my headphones into my interface. And it works!...
...for about 2 minutes, then the whole thing cuts out COMPLETELY. Now, the DM6 has lights on to say which drum is being hit, and Cubase has the little MIDI in light. When it stops working, the Alesis lights keep going correctly, but there are no Cubase MIDI in lights.
Then, I close Cubase and start a new project the same way. No luck. To get it to work again, I have to close Cubase, then disconnect the USB (but the module is left turned on), reconnect USB, restart Cubase, and it works. For 2 minutes.
I don't want to have to buy new drums or new software, I can't afford it, and besides they should work when I plug them in! I have been using a Roland cakewalk 2x2 midi interface and never had this problem.
Thank you, I will be ecstatic if someone can help me with this. There is usually someone really smart comes to the rescue on forums when I am stuck...
