help me to buy a taylor

Hi guys I am selling my taylor 310ce and I am looking at getting a taylor with a expression system (I love taylor) has anyone had much experience I need a cut away low action rythym lead lot of open and diminnished cords. My influence on the guitar is Jeff Buckley, Dave Mathews, David Grey and alot more

I am looking for taylor accoustically like the 310ce but with the expression system I have played taylor with the ES and love the live sound. if you have any suggestions please let me know

The Expression system can be retrofit on to any Taylor guitar, though you will be without it for a minimum of about two months (it is not at local warranty centers, so it must be shipped back to the factory).

To be honest, though, you will most likely be unhappy with the system. It is developing a reputation as a noisy system (though that is usually because people turn the bass and treble gain controls up too high). More importantly, it has a terrible record on reliability. We (I have a warranty center for Taylor) have done more warranty repairs on the ES stuff than we did on the Fishman stuff they were using before in ten years. It is ridiculous.


And I think the Fishman stuff sounds better.


As I said, the ES system can be retrofit, though. It is VERY expensive, but you would at least be able to keep your guitars (which you presumably like).


Oh, and if you break any strings, make sure you get the ball ends out of the guitar. They get stuck to the various pickups, and make the system buzz. We get calls about that at least a couple of times a week.

I am thinking about the 814ce with the expresion system I have had a look for a 814ce with the fisherman blend but couldnt find one I am in OZ by the way. The most important thing is the acc quality as I will be micing for recording although I will be playing alot of live stuff.
 
I've got a 710CE with a Fishman stereo blender. I consider it vastly superior to the expression system. I'd rather get a Taylor with no electronics and retrofit it with Fishman Aura or a stereo blender, ibeam, or triad.-Richie
 
Just a thought -- if you're interested in buying used (but in mint condition), you may want to visit the "Acoustic Guitar Forum" (formerly the "Taylor Guitar Forum") at http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/index.php and check out the For Sale section. I know first-hand that there are many very trustworthy members there selling their Taylors, both Fishman and ES equipped, often in pristine condition. I'm sure I remember that many have shipped to Australia in the past and in fact some members are from Oz. Check it out, hang-out there for awhile, get to know who has a good reputation and see what happens. Good luck.
 
I have allot of musician friends who are very sorry they purchased the Taylor ES system. The guitars are great the electronics are problematic.

One of the main complaints are hot strings, meaning one of the strings are louder then the rest. What I remember is seems to be the B string.

I think there are allot of after market setups out there that you might be very pleased with.

I bought a new 514ce with the ES and I just never got used to the sound plugged in. I ended up selling it and getting an older Fishman blender guitar. I really like how that system sounds. BUT- if you have already heard the ES and like it, there's no reason not to get it. I think they have finally worked out most of the bugs in it. I just didn't like the sound of it.

Get a guitar without a pickup, and then get a Fishman installed. If you really feel the need for a Blender, get the new Ellipse Blender. Though personally, I usually like the sound of the pickup alone more than anything using the mic. If you have it done at a warranty center, it will not effect your warranty.

I ordered my 2002 Taylor 814c new without any electronics (saved a couple hundred $). I like the idea of no electronics holes. Acoustic guitar electronics are evolving all the time, so why tie oneself to one set-up. I have a PUTW pu/pa system which I installed myself. I like it, but I can change it to what/whenever I want (including a passive ES system if I'm ever so inclined).
 
thanks heaps guys the taylor 814ce retails in oz at $6300 but I got a quote for $5000. I think I am just going to keep my 310ce for a bit till I hear something that gives me a rajah! Sometimes it takes a long time to find a guitar that really works for you think I might buy a good pair of mics instead. I have been recording through a avalon U5 DI at the moment Yes Yes I know mic the damn thing up but I only have the focurite pre in the Mbox and a sm58 and a pretty loud noise floor so!

right maybe the expression system is a bit dodgy but there is nothing wrong with taylor guitars except maybe how much they cost. I am not talking to you anymore hmmm!

You can get a nice 814-c with no electronics from a "Acousticguitarforum.com" person for about 2k. The 814 are great guitars, but I would also consider a 414c limited Indian Rosewood guitar.
 
my 4 year old 314 CE with the Fishman Prefix Plus is versatile and without a doubt has a fine tone....
It's great for the studio or the stage.....

It ain't as pretty as the rest of the higher end Taylors but, it sounds just as sweet......


I've seen these for in between $800 and $1600 used....depending on the condition...

it's a good deal for sure
