ok at 1st my line-in wouldnt work, then my mic wouldnt work,so i replaced the sound card and they still dont work! ive donr messed with tha "lil speaker in tha task bar" mixer any ideas please help!

please be a bit more specific.
What soundcard are you using, does it work at all (can you playback music?). Have you tweaked the record control behind the little speaker in the taskbar or just the play control? Which Windows version are you using anyway?

There are a lot of issues that can play a part in your problem so give us a clear picture of the situation.

When you checked out the speaker in the task bar, what you probably needed to do was to right click it, and choose 'open audio controls'.

On the options tab, select 'properties', then select 'recording' and then click 'ok'. This will show all of your incoming sound options. Make sure the item you are trying to record with is checked in the box at the bottom.

If this is not the problem, there are probably quite a few other reasons it is not working. Could be something in the playback configuration as well.

Good luck,

my sound card is AWE64 i think,im running windows 98 and i have all the normal sounds,i juss cant get it 2 recieve any?

One other thing to check is to right click your speaker in the taskbar and choose adjust audio properties. Under the recording heading, make sure you have the correct soundcard/item chosen to record with.

Also, make sure you have the items in the correct jacks in the back of the computer. (No kidding-it happens).

Hmmmm...

If you are certain that win98's audio stuff is set up right and that your mic and line ins are enabled, it might be in your recording software. What recording program are you using?

Have you tried recording with windows Sound Recorder? Give it a try and see if that works. If it does, the problem is somewhere in your recording program setup- most likely.

OK, troubleshooting mode, here. If the Sound Recorder doesn't even work and you've set everything up right in the windows mixer then something is wrong somewhere.

What are you trying to record? Are you running line in from something? Using a mic?

Which mic? Condensor or dynamic mic? Are you using a preamp?

Are you sure all your cables are OK?

The problem could be anywhere. If Win is setup right and the audio still doesn't work then the problem might be outside windows.

im runnin a 4-track to the line-in,but then i plugged the mic str8 in and it still didnt work? i can hear everything but it wont record?
i got a shure mic

OK, swampy, let me get this straight.

You can HEAR the connected device from the LINE IN, but, you can't RECORD the device from the LINE IN?
