Ok well this is a kind of doubble post but the one in the newbies section got hijacked so I thought I'd take it to the guys who'd know a little more.

Ok my friend has saved $6000AUS and wants to get his own studio for recording.

Vocals
Turntables
Samples

I'm really out of my league here as I only have a yamaha aw16g and are more into the "budget" world of recording As where he wants to spend a heap on his studio He also wants the studio to revolve around logic audio.

Originally I was thinking the delta 1010 but then someone made a comment about how that may just be to big to record rap and it'd be a waste of time. Then they recomended the presonus firebox.

I have no Idea

Could you guys please put together afew combantaions from the sites below?

www.allans.com.au

www.venuemusic.com.au

I thank you for your time and help

I was working on a list.. but I have a question.. Does he already own the computer?

http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/default.aspx?Pg=21&ProductCode=SL1200MK2
2 x Technics SL1200MK2 Direct Drive Turntable = $1796.00

Cartridges
2 x Shure M77 = ?

http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/default.aspx?Pg=21&ProductCode=DXM01
1 x Numark DXM01 Digital Scratch Mixer = $392.00

http://www.musicianswarehouse.com.au/default.aspx?Pg=21&ProductCode=K2
1 x Rode K2 Valve Large Diaphragm Studio Vocal Microphone $1141.00

P.S. The list is lopsided, at this point...

P.S.S. The selection over there is hellish... Have any other links?

Okay.. I give up... $6027, without cartrides, misc. cables, Logic, computer, and those things everyone forgets in these type of lists (plus whatever else I halfhazardly overlooked)...

I know the turntables/mixer/carts are a bit expensive.. but, it is said, ESPECIALLY about DJ equipment, the equipment you use has a MAJOR influence over how often you practice / how successful you are at learning... Honesly, unless he already has skills in this department, he should choose a direction (turntablism/production) or save more money.... I chose the preamp below, because the Delta doesn't have phantom. Also, you can use it as a DI box, so I'm thinking he would have a choice between the Delta pre's and the Behri pre's...

This is probably the most reasonable Hip Hop package of all my lists!!!...

P.S. Tell your friend that Pro Tools is Hip Hop's industry standard DAW....

Ok he allready has the computer. He sais that It's good (I don't know I'm just guna let it go) and his parents got him logic for his Birthday so he's got that covered.

He also has turntables.

Oh and It's ok to go a little over $6000 but just a little.

I was about to post the 25k studio page but my boy Peritus covered that, so check this out:
http://www.onestopbeats.com/toolsofthetrade.html

Here are a few suggestions but nowhere near as expansive as the above.

For recording:

Interface:

E-Mu 1820m - $1199 (I'm recommending this because it has one of the best A/D converters in the world, the same as in the Digidesign Pro Tools HD192, which is professional quality)

Mic:

Rode NT1A Condensor mic - >$390

OR

Studio Projects C1 Condensor - >$389

Beatmaking:

Sound Module:

E-mu Proteus X - 399

w/ Roms

Mo'Phatt & Virtuoso X - $99 and $149, respectively

The module & rom recommendations are the same ones that my boy Siege has and he's DOPE with the beats. Peep the spread about them.

MIDI Controller:

E-mu Xboard 25 - $349 or, if you want more keys, E-mu Xboard 49 - $419

Use Peritus' last list but you can check this out for ideas.

I'm a professional window shopper :D so get at me if you need me.

Ummm, look, I have the Emu 1820M, and I like it for what it is, but to say it has one of the best A/D convertors in the world is just plaing wrong.

The convertors are excellent for the money, but they in no way compare to the big boys of Benchmark, Lynx, Lavry, Cransong, Mytek et al.

You're probably right, I was going by the product description. lol
