I'm looking at a couple of different soundcards at the moment. I want to record guitar and vocals, and probably a bass or 2 (although this could be done through software), over-dubbing all parts as it's just me on my own.

My motherboard has a built in soundcard, but I'm not sure of the quality of this yet. Could I get by on this?

I understand that I could do ok on the Creative Soundblaster 5.1 - is this right?

the other one I'm looking at (for more money, obviously) is the Delta 1010, a name I have heard flicked around here quite often. This one looks like a really good card.

My question is, is is worth shelling out the extra for the Delta or can I get by on the Creative, or even my built in soundcard since I am not going to need multiple inputs?

any help, as always, is REALLY appreciated

You don't need a 1010. Just get the M-Audio Audiophile for $150.

Sound blasters are for gaming. If you want to do recording, buy a card designed for that purpose.

Try what you have first before shelling out the dough.
If you want to invest $$ in anything right now, your best bet would be in mic pre amps or a decent mixer and mics. Unless you are set in that area already.
Still .... I would give the internal a shot, just be sure to use the line in.
If the internal turns out to be crap ... pick up a reasonable priced 24 bit stereo card. There are many out there for under $100.
