Hey all
Im somewhat of a amature when it comes to sound, but am learning quickly.

Im looking into a new mixer (current Behringer 2442 is Crap!)
It needs 16 XLR channels ,Subgroups, and AUX sends.
I have narrowed it down to 2 mixers within my price bracket; The Mackie 1604VLZ pro and the Yamaha MG24/14 FX. The mixer needs to serve as a live sound reinforcement and as a recording point to go into my puter. I also heard that mackie is coming out with a new mixer, the ONYX?

which do you reccommend? Or alternatives?

Im leaning towards the yamaha becuase of the price ($999USD vs. $899USD,respectivley) ,the low frequency output, and talkbak mic.

Thanks

I think you'll find the Mackie to sound more "pure" (did I just say that?), but the built-in FX on the Yamaha sure could come in handy for live stuff...

Rough call on that one...

I have used both a Mackie VLZ Pro 1202 and a Yamaha MG 16/4. As far as the pres go, they are not identical, but I honestly do not have a preference for either one, in fact I can no longer remember in one of my tunes where I have used both mixers which track was done with which unless I look up my notes. The tracks done initially in that song with a Behringer MX602A mixer stand out like a sore thumb.

Your Behringer 2442 sounds like crap? Funny, mine sounds pretty good for the money...

In your price range, I would skip both of the mixers you listed and instead go for the Soundcraft M12. Or maybe the M8 if the M12 is too much.

See thats why i am avoiding behringer. My first mixer i had was a behringer, it was amazing for what i did with it. So with such great results the first time, when i upgraded to a better mixer i got the 2442. and i have had nothing but inconsistent sound with it. Not to mention the 3 dead channels on it.

I don't want to start a "behringer vs. the world" war here but i would like something that is more profesional. and something that doesnt say eurorack on it (sorry europeans, it just sounds wierd to me).

I have a Behringer DI and V-amp both work flawless. I dunno, maybe i just got a lemon when i got my 2442. I agree, for the price, they are great products.

I will have to check out those soundcraft boards, thanks

Eurorack does sound strange, but I guess Yankeerack wouldn't be a great selling point either.

i think the yamahas are brilliant for the money/performance ratios. after the behringer i don't think you'd be disappointed with it. i often use a Mackie CFX16 live, the effects are usable but rarely needed but i do constantly appreciate its build quality over lage euroracks i've used that have felt very flimsy at best.
