I'm currently searching for a mic pre $500 to $1200, I own a GT66 and SPb1
this will mainly be used for male vocals. The sound I'm trying to get is located here http://web.mit.edu/aaelenes/www/musica/mp3.html

Go to Los Alegres De La Sierra and download El Primo (its in spanish) notice the vocals have a warm and lush sound to them my singer's vocals sound alot like theirs and the music style is exactly the same. I've heard a lot of good things about THE BRICK from GT but I need atleast 2 channels I dont mind buying 2 of them if that is what I need I'm also looking at the Sebatron VMP-2000e or maybe a fatman mic pre. Please feel free to give any suggestions as wich mic pre might be best suited for me or maybe another brand?. Thanks for the help

Hey thanks for the help, I got one more question if anyone can help me with i'm planing on recording my accordion on the same preamp but I need an instrument mic and have done research but still cant find anything on an accordion mic I want it to sound like the one in the clip sounds they use the same accordion that I have a gabbanelli. if you have any suggestions I would really appreciate it. :)

oh and rhammet do you think my accordion would sound warm and lush like the one in the clip with the same mic pre? :D

Hey Rhammet do you have any samples you could post using your sebatron? it would really help just to hear it before I buy it :)

the deep switch pushes the lower frequencies a bit more. more warm .
try arrange some samples but it will not make much difference on an mp3
over the internet. you have to record with this thing there. you can feel the differance straight away.

Have you written to that artist and asked who their engineer was, and what mic and preamp was used? If you want that sound it would be very helpful to have that information as a point of reference.

You might also want to look at getting a couple of the Summit Audio 2BA-221 mic preamps.

I've asked several times about that Summit unit you're speaking of Albert and I've never had anyone give me their opinions on it. What do you think of the unit?

Groove tubes makes a nice preamp in the Brick. It's on the low side of your budget too.

Geoffrey Daking & Co. 52270 Geoffrey Daking & Co. offers the 52270 mic pre/EQ for the 90-series modular system. The 52270 features transformer-balanced input and output, all-discrete circuitry with Class-A amplifiers, separate mic and line input level controls, high- and lowpass filters, a 20dB pad plus remote mute and bypass functions. The EQ section has four bands with stepped frequencies, 16 dB of boost/cut and individual bypass. Retail: $1,250.

this one sounds GREAT, I have heard it.

In the same vein as the Sebatron, you could try a Peavey (I know, I know) VMP-2. Two channel real tube preamp with simple very usable EQ (treble and bass), phantom power, pad, phase and meters. A very nice and reasonably priced pre. You can improve the sound if you swap out the standard Sovtek 12AX7 tubes for better tubes. Between $600-800 used (discontinued so used is all there is). Well worth looking for. I wouldn't limit myself to tube preamps though. There are plenty of "warm" solid state ones as well. The Peavey is a good deal though. If you shop around, it would be cheaper than getting 2 Bricks and you get more flexibility (like the EQ).

I would also like to see what you have to say about the Summit Audio 2BA-221 . :)

Avalon VT 747

It really adds warmth. If you can save for one, it is worth it.
It really adds warmth and it is made with hand crafted tubes.
