help me build an audio pc?

hey folks,

been away for awhile... i've been using acid on my laptop for awhile now and feel like i'm ready to make the jump into tracking and mixing on a pc now. but i'd love to have some of your advice. i'd like to spend about a grand on a pc and maybe a grand on the interface. for the interface, i was thinking of the new motu firewire dealie as i could use it with my laptop as well. but i have no clue as to what pc configuration or software. something that's friendly with acid would be great. so anyone wanna tell me what i should get?

oh, i should also add that i rarely use midi, and typically track bass, keys, percussion and vox to the acid tracks.

Read the posts here and come back with a more specific question.

The short answer is get the fastest computer you can afford. Just be carefull of pre-built home computers. They usually cram the video and sound onto the motherboard and that is usually bad.

i have read as many posts as i could over the last several weeks. and there always seems to be differing opinions (to be expected) or the thread is too specific for me to currently understand.

but you are right, i'll try to be more specific. i do understand that i need to buy the biggest, fastest, meanest pc i can afford. but my biggest concerns are the processor and motherboard types. frankly, i know squat about that end and am not terribly interested in understanding the minutae of it (donning flame suit ;-). i'm sure alot of you folks have already been down this road and i'm hoping to learn from you.

soooo, what's the best processor for audio? pentium? amd? or?? what kind of motherboard should i look for? i'm comfortable installing, ram, cd-rw drives, hard drives and such. so i don't mind putting a pc together. i just don't know the right stuff to buy. i'd like to stay around a grand for the pc.

fwiw, i'm pretty set on the new motu firewire dealie and i need to use some software that's acid friendly. so i may stick with a sonic foundry product unless someone can suggest something better.
