Howdy, Im looking for a large-diaphragm (multi-pattern) condensor - I've narrowed it down to the Shure KSM44 or the Studio Projects C3 - These two have good reviews and maybe y'all can tell me about other good ones

I need the omni pattern for a situation I hope to be part of soon: several folks playing/singing around the mic (acoustic)

P.S I'll be using a joe meek mq3 into a audiophile 24/96 card

I don't know if they're around anymore but not too long ago there were some nice prices on Groove Tubes AM-52's. I get a lot of milage out of mine.

I've been happy with my Soundelux U97. They're discontinued but pop up on Ebay every now and then. I paid about $600 for it.
4 patterns - Hypercard, card, Omni, and Figure-8. I use it on vocals and acoustic guitar.

Everybody likes a different sound. Mics are personal. Try listening to an AKG C3000B, just to shake up the mix. Not as accurate as the Shure, or as much color as the Groove tubes, but a good compromise. Best of luck- Richie
P.S.- you know, salesmen work for a living. Bring your axe or your voice or whatever to the store and audition the mics, if necessary, with a pop filter. They'll hate you, but you'll find out which mic *you* like- go for it! If they won't let you audition their mic, go find a real salesperson!

C-3000 isn't a horrible mic at all but it isn't a multi pattern, only cardiod and hyper cardiod.
