Ok, I am plugging to guitar into an effects unit, then into a mixer, then into the line in of my soundcard. When I try this setup recording in cool pro, it doesn't record anything. But if i plug it into the mic input instead it does work, but everyone says that you shouldnt use the mic input, you should use line. In Cool Pro however, under the Options menu, if i turn on Moniter Record Levels (when plugged into the line in), the red bar moves according to my playing, yet it wont record anything. Please help if you can.

EXACT same problem with me. But plugging into mic input works fine with me, just i do a lot of adjusting on my mixer and mic volumes on the computer.

Go to Options/Settings/General and check the box "Auto-Scroll during play and record". You should now see the wave being drawn as it's being recorded.

Be sure to go to your soundcard's mixer and make sure the appropriate boxes are selected and the faders adjusted properly. If you have a Windows mixer, check the appropriate things. While you're at it, check the Multimedia folder in the control panel to make sure everything is correct.

I ran into this alot when I was still using my computer for games.

Make sure BOTH Windows and your soundcard's settings are set for line in. Many games will change these settings, muting some while enabling others.

Either remember what you've set or create pre-sets. I swore my SoundBlaster was screwed (it is anyway), but it turned out a game had muted the line-in.

That will probably fix your problem.

fury, I know you sid you see the bar moving when you use your line in. I had this same problem. I have a p.o.s. onboard soundcard. It has a line in input, but it doesn't have a line in.
