Im making a custom computer because my current one still runs windows ME. I just do basic vocal recording and I will have fast track pro and a shure SM57. So my question is what am i going to need the most of? RAM? DDR? SRAM? And Im thinking a M audio audiophile 2496 sound card? Would this be a basic set up? Im using CEP 2.1

Sorry if this isn't enough information. Im not sure as to what other things you would need to know. Im really not clued in on this stuff i look but dont understand what u guys are talking about. Even the guys at sam ash couldnt get it through to me. Im a hard learner.

I would use XP pro stripped bare of anything non essential, but if you're a masochist you can stick with ME.

What motherboard do you have? This will determine the type of ram to buy (double check the RAM is compatible, i fried a mobo+ram recently because i was lazy and didn't check)

Get more RAM than you need, i would say bare minimum 1gb, though I would prefer 2gb+

Make sure you have at least 7200rpm drives, if your unsure google the model of your HDD's and check the specs out

next spend a good amount of time reading through

Any questions?

Dual-core processor (Intel: Pentium Dual-Core or Core 2 Duo; AMD: Athlon 64x2)

1 GB or more of RAM. The type of RAM will be determined by your motherboard. Most likely 240-pin DDR2 667 or DDR2 800. Install in matched pairs if you are going to use integrated video from your motherboard.

Hard drive: SATA connection spinning at 7200 RPM. Ideally, you'd have 2 drives. The first one for your operating system and software, the second one for recording.

Be sure to have a good quiet power supply as well. You probably want at least 500 watts if you're going to have 2 hard drives and a video card.

The interface you have IS your soundcard. Although an internal PCI soundcard will probably give you better performance over your current USB Fast Track Pro.

geez, I feel limited by 5 gigs of ram in my audio machine lol

Damn, why are you telling them to spend a boatload of money on something they might not need.... Hell I have seen a P3-500Mhz do wonders...

Better to have and not need than to need and not have.
