I don't really know where to post it so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place.

I need help concerning my guitar rig 5 and cubase, I have no problem using guitar rig(standalone) but when I use it through cubase to try to record, it doesn't sound as awesome as standalone it sounds so different. Any solutions? Thanks!

Hello and welcome,
I only know a little of Cubase (got LE6) and nothing of GR5 but if you are running it as a pluggin watch your levels. I bet you are running way too hot.

Dave.

Thank's for replying,
Yes I'm running it as a pluggin I tried playing around with my levels but it just doesn't sound the same.

When recording electric guitar, less distortion is more (in other words, turn down the gain or fuzz).

When you run it in your daw as a plug-in is it ending up in mono? Stand alone will output in stereo. Not Cubase user here but I figure that could happen in any daw. Hope that helps.

Thank's yes it helps a little bit but not quiet the sound I'm looking for.

Yes it is in mono.

There's not much that could be different.
I can think of two things.

Mono/Stereo.
Find out if the standalone plays out in stereo. I think it does.
If so, make sure GTR rig is on a stereo track in your DAW.

Latency.
If you DAW latency settings differ from whatever the standalone is set to, there's potential for a delay one way or the other.
It doesn't technically change the sound, but it can be off-putting and misleading.

Of course, make sure you have no plugins active in your DAW. No master plugs...nothing.

I was about to say..."Record the sound of GR5 when standalone then see how that .wav sounds when played in Cubase..."

Then I realized that if you are using an external soundcard/AI you can't do that, record what you hear that is. I get so used to doing this (record a lot of Radio 3) using "Mon Mix" with my 2496's.

THEN! I realized I don't actually know what you are using to record with? Do Tell.

Dave.

Very helpful and educational. Thank you I finally fixed it :P
You're right Standalone plays out with stereo so I just switch mono into stereo on my cubase and it sounds just the way I wanted. Big thanks!
