Once in a while I get a song that I just can't seem to be happy with. This is one of them. I am in the middle of retracking & remixing this song and am stuck on it. Changed my mixing room with treatment and other things recently and can't wrap my head around this one.

Please listen and give me your insight on the mix over your system. More opinions the better :D

thanks all.

vox, good

guitar solo seems to lack a bit of punch (maby lift the high end or something just for that part, the rest sounds great)

the drums.. I don't like, especially the HH is driving me nuts
I dunno, I don't think I can help u much on this one. the sound is good.
but just dosn't seem to fit at all... it feels like a midi track..
sorry that I can't help u there

but I hope it helps at least a little

Thanks Nick, It helps.
I want as many people to weigh in as possible even if they just say the mix is muddy or what ever. I'll take a listen to the HH. I'm assuming from your comment that is stood out on your system :D

Thanks Again F.S.

Drums don't seem to be in the same mix....vox and guitar fit good together, drums seem a bit dynamic at times...might be the HH as Nick stated. Maybe if you give the guitars a bit more top end that will help bridge that gap. Drums sound good, just not meshing with the rest of the sounds. The Toms were on top also. Just didn't seem to fit quite right.

Getting good guitars on this - could come up a bit maybe. The drums on headphones sound ok - panning real nice and apparent. You can hear some room on the drums. The vox are jumping out once in a while with a bit of a shrill edge to them - not often but might ride the fader or eq it a bit. Bass is good. Writing/playing/vocals are all excellent.

:) :D :) :D

Thanks Dogman.

Well my nasty confession is that the kick, snare and toms where drumagog'd. Not that they where that bad but I have several songs from different sessions and I am trying to find a way to tie them together better so I thought I'd try using drumagog on this song. Just got it so I'm learning as I go. I may have to automate the tom tracks. I want them pretty pronounced after the solo but normal everywhere else.

When you say not meshing???? Well I will waite for more people

Thanks for the info that really helps!

:) :D :) :D

Thanks Ido!

I'll check on the vox. Really trying to get used to this new mixing enviroment :)

Ya I jacked the overheads pretty good to try and keep the room in the drums.

thanks again:)

PS: I must randomly rep people before I can give you rep again :D

Keep em coming guys:) I may get back to reality yet :D

Frood Dude,
Good song & vocal performance.
I reckon you should solo & remix the rhythm section then bring the other stuff back in, maybe in mono 1st though.
The HH & L cymbal seem to be either too loud, or need some softening - not sure which.
The bass punches away nicely but could , you guessed it, use a little more definition.
I look forward to an update.

Thanks Rayc! I bumped the toms after I solo'd the drums & bass and must have over done it :o

I've been trying to get more bass definition with out alot of rumble. I will keep working on it.

Thanks again.

Freud Dude,
Timothy Lawlers tried & true remedy for bass definition is a boost at 3k.

Hmm FS... I have to say that i agree with ya..I think that the crux of the issue is that the drums are pretty (to but it nicely) awful. They lack any kinda life, and the toms seem out of phase... The HH is really annoying.. not a good tone, like ya EQ'd the daylight out of it, and it's too loud. The snare sounds like it's gated.. the drums as a whole sound like they have paper skins...

I know I'm being a little harsh here, but I think that we have enough 'history' together that I can afford to be a tad harsh on ya, cause I know your better than this mix.

IMO, until the drums have some life, the mix is gunna be lifeless.

the guitars could use a bit more 'edge', somewhere around 4Kish..the solo need some boosting... the guitars also seem like they are right up the middle and the toms are too wide/phased... not that the panning is necessarily bad, but the 2 don't fit together at all.

Sounding good. Still there is job to do.
I don' know exactly what. I thing the most of those nits are already said.
Nice performance as well.

I have to agree with Perdicamanent. I don't mean any offense at all, but the drums sound pretty bad. Theres some nice tom action in this song but it sort of seems overdone with the panning and the tone is sort of dead. I could also use the rhythms and lead a little more in my face. The playing and tone is great, but turn em up some. The bass sits nicely and carries the song along, and the vocals are great. You have a cool voice.

Basically, its just the drums that hurt this song. The rest is right there and would be great with some very minor tweaks. :)

Thanks Perdicament: No need to feel harsh;) I think it was a mistake for me to try Drumagog right after treating my room. Treating the room took some hi end but you wouldn't know it because it took tons of low end thump & boom away. I have had my panels up and down 10 times over the last week (no easy task). I've got enough stuff going on without tossing drumagog in there.
I am sure I am just having too much fun with it too
I really apritiate the input. I will likely go back to the raw drum tracks.
It's odd about the HH. I've not eq'd it at all except a hi pass down low.
I do not like this HH though. We used a kit that was set up and I think our drummers HH sounds much better, way more depth and sizzle.

Greg L. Thanks for the input! I will check it all out;) statement to perdicament:D On the guitars I will likely try pulling the drums some and seeing where that lands me as well as puching them a bit or adding a little 1.5k. Just have to see. I'll get used to this new arangement yet. Seriously considering those JBL self tuning 8inch monitors though:D There only $1400.00  I used a new guitar mic on top of everything else on this recording :D :D :D  What the hell was I thinking!!!
I think half the issue is mixing my own band though. I don't usually have that issue but on busy distorted songs it can get me and with all the changes it is on this one :o

Thanks for the listen sikter;)

I'm going to work on this if I have time today and bring it back later.

Thanks to all for your opinions, I certanly needed them :D .
