I purchased an MSR1266CD on eBay about 3-4 weeks ago.
After laying down some tracks, I wanted to see if the cd drive worked. Well ... as some of you probably saw in other posts, I was unsuccessful. I contacted the seller and asked if this was the factory cd drive, if he had been successful in burning cd's and if so, what type of cd's he used.

HIS reply was ...
"I had a friend install it for me, but I sold it before I ever used it. There is a user group on yahoo with many knowledgable people that I know will have the answers you need to get it working."

Well, knowledgable people ... any ideas?
I'd rather not spent $300 on a Zoom cd drive if there is something else out there that will work. But unless someone has first hand experience in replacing or adding a cd drive from another manufacture, and has been successful, I'm afraid I have no choice.

PLEASE HELP!!!

man, that sucks....

moral: always ask EVERYTHING you can about the product before you buy it!

also: why not ask for his "friends" email address, or even phone number, to see if HE can help you? haha. that would really piss him off...HA!

Dude, in your other post, in which you ask the same question, I gave you an answer. The LiteOn cd writer is highly recommended. I think it's around $30 or $40. Do a search on the Yahoo 1266 forum and you'll find tons of info on replacement cd writes.

grinder ...

Thanks for the info!
I just purchased a LiteOn 52-32-52 cdrw online.

Is there anything I need to know when installing it?
Do I need to do any reconfiguring or special wiring? Or is it a direct replacement and will the Zoom automatically recognize the new hardware and automatically work?

Anybody know?

Grinder has it,

I own a 1266 and installed a liteon CD burner. Liteon apparently make the ones which zoom re badge (and mark up horrendously). I fitted mine six months ago and have used it extensively with no problems.

any of the current models should be ok (with smart-burn). Just make sure the interface is ATAPI/E-IDE.

Sorry, writing posts at same time.

The Zoom manual describes it.

It's really simple though- 2x cables- 2x holes to put 'em in.

They should interface automatically.
