MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!
Yes I'm a loser who's posting on bulletin boards on Christmas day! Why? Because I've been recording for the last 4 years and have basically forgotten how to use my live set up. Yes I'm an idiot!
On that note: I have a feedback destroyer pro (the older discontinued DSP1100P) and I can't seem to remember how to use it. I used to just set it and forget it on one of the presets and had some success doing that but I can't remember which I used. I found the preset list on www.behringer.com and I believe it was #2 or #3. One is all "auto" filters, the other has "auto" and "single shots". I re-read the manual and still can't understand what a "single shot" means. Again, yes I'm an idiot!
Here's how I'm running it - it's only processing one vocal mic. I run my condenser into a preamp, the preamp into a Comp16 compressor, and the compressor into channel A of the feedback destroyer, and then into the board. For purposes of rehearsal, that's it. Live I will be splitting the signal so that feedback suppression is only affecting the monitors, but that's another story.
So - my question is which preset do I want to use to set and forget? Will I need to edit that preset to tweak it? If so,that scares me.
Also, another side question I have is that even though my mic is preamped and running through a compressor before it gets to the feedback destroyer, it seems that the only way to get a good level on the DSP1100 (right at -6 to -3db) is to set the operating switch on the back to -10dbV. Does that seem right? If I flip it to +4 the signal drops to about -20 unless I turn up the output on the compressor all the way.
