Hey there, i have a HUGE issue and its becoming extrmeely irritating nevermind frustrating.
I have recently bought an EMU Xboard49 to work through a desktop Mac that I have bought.

On it, i have logic pro 8 set up and need some training through that but am learning more and more about things.

Anyway, i cannot get the software instrument to play through logic, I've added an instrument track (software instrument) and selected the I/O above the Output 1-2 and clicked on ES1-Synthesizer. It should be playing through logic , but no noise whatsoever is being made when i play the board- highly frustrating as I really need this for my music recording and bought it specifically for this reason.

Could somebody PLEAASE tell me what I'm not doing, whether the software/driver installation is okay (I have installed numerous times and it has said that the installation has been successful.) and also, could some one please get this problem sorted asap as im unsure of what else to do!!

Also I,ve tried installing a driver update-not successful.

and ive tried using garageband for it.

basically, i dont have a clue what im doing technical aspects of things and i need help asap as its seriously annoying me now and i just want to record.

Cheers,
Danni

I'm using Logic 5.1 on XP, so what I say may not exactly match your situation. However, the basic functionality is the same.

It seems you are doing the right thing so far.

You have

* added an isntrument track
* loaded ES1 into the track

yet you still don't get sound.

Have you:

* checked to see that you are actually getting a midi signal in? The transport tool should show whether this is happening . . . it tells you which note you are playing. In addition, you should get a level indicator on the track itself (in either mixer or arrange view).

* checked to see whether you have the track highlighted? If the track is not selected, even if you have a midi signal coming in, it won't be heard.

* tried using a different synth? Logic comes with a range of soft synths. Try one or more of the others.

* used the midi editor (the piano roll) to insert a handful of random notes and played this to see whether this will work?

* tried getting any audio at all? For example, load any wav file into an audio track and see whether this plays.

See how you go with those tests.

I've checked most the above. I honestly am not getting a midi signal through. on the transport bar it just reads : No In/ No Out.

Thank you so much for replying!

That narrows it down. It seems that Logic is not picking up your controller.

When you go to the arrange screen, can you select a midi track (or do you have to create one first)?

Either select a midi track, or create one, then select it. You should see track information on the left hand side of the screen somewhere. It should show you which midi channel you are on, and give you program, volume and pan information.

Importantly, it should show you what midi device is active. Below the track icon, I can see "BCo #0 Midi0" which is a somewhat cryptic label for my firepod. You should see an equivalent for your interface. If you click on this, it should show you what other devices are selectable. With luck, there will be something there for your interface.

Try that.

oh man i need logic training or something. its so flippin complicated. i didnt fully understand the above, ive been trying to have a mess about though and figure it out somehow.
Thank u very much,

okay what ive done so far, which is probably wrong..
is i have created an audio track and added in a random clip of music from the loop bar on the right.
Bit confused about the add a midi track bit. As i added a midi track (i.e software instrument on logic?) and puzzled about what to do.

so basically i added the audio one,
now on the left it shows acoustic picking , follo tempo etc etc, and core audio which is in grey and cannot be selected above the MIDI channel: 1. etc etc.

As from here,

One does not have a bloody clue. :(

It looks like you will have to dive into your manual. As I said, I am using an old version on XP.

However, in Logic 8, the area I'm referring to is called "The Inpector". It is on the left hand part of the arrange window, and is where you can set channels and various track parameters.

:(

its no use at all it just tells me everything ive done. im getting so so frustrated with this now i just want to bloody play like.

For some reason the thing under the icon isnt showing up properly. i dont know. i give up now.
