A friend of a friend of a friend,oh you got the picture;want's to sell me a Korg AW8000. Problem is, I never heard of a Korg AW8000 or AWD 800 or sumthin like that! He's selling it for $75.00 of which he bought it at some flea market in New Jersey! I'm supposed to check it out 2-morrow (Friday,March 9th) and I simply want to know if it's worth the trip to Joisey and if it's
a good model. Any info on this keyboard will be of great assistance as I don't want to waste time drivin' all the way for nuthin'!
Again, thx for any and all assistance.
Peace.

You're probably talking about the DW8000. Korg also made one called the DW6000.

The DW8000 was a wavetable synth and it had pretty good sounds when it came out in 1985. Great organ sounds, synth brass, digital delay and chorus effects. It was simple to program. I think it's 8-voice polyphonic. It was warmer sounding than a lot of the digital synths of that time. The DX7 and Ensoniq keys were really popular at that time but didn't have the balls that the Korg stuff had. I bought the Oberheim Matrix-6 at the same time the DW8000 came out because I remember trying to decide which one to get.

It's been awhile since I've played one so I can't really say if I would still like it enough to recommend it. If it works, then $75 is pretty cheap if you need the extra sounds. I think I just spent 75 bucks tonight at the movies.

Good luck

Nah! I passed on it! The majority of the synth sounds
reminded me of the synth tones used on DISCO music
back in the late 70's and '80's! The back-up battery for the RAM was dead and Korg does not manufacture them any more. It did had some koool patches, but I'm not trying to produce any music from the past. Least of all,f#ckin'DISCO!!
