Hi guys,
Please listen closely to both vocals. If you have a good ears you can probably know the difference between the two.
Difference 1
On my version, if my artist sings at the soft part, her volume also decreases noticeably. On the reference version, if she sings the soft part, the volume stays the same. I already applied compression on mine with settings, 6:1 ratio very fast attack and 80ms release.
The reference sounds like there is an auto gain applied to it.
Difference 2
The reference version seems to have more vocal character and it sounds more lively or alive. Hopefully somebody knows what I mean. My version seems kind of dead, still needs more editing and sounds like still raw. Even I already applied EQ, compression, autotune and reverb , it still lacking of something.
Sounds like my version is too clean and boring.
The reference is to alive and sounds like you can go along with it.
These guys seems to have some secret they applied to it.
I suspect they add something on the chain to add some more character to it.
My vocal chain is AKG 820 Tube Condenser -> Digidesign Pre -> Digidesign 96IO -> Protools HD
I did all the processing using software plugins.
I hope you guys can share some technique in achieving this...thanks
Also, just be honest, let me know which sounds more better on vocals only, mixing wise.
