HELP: FRIED Model Z monitor "fried"

I have these Fried Model Z speakers ... rated at 80 watts. They stopped working and I noticed a "chemical smell"
I opened them up, speaker is intact and nothing looks burnt

Does anyone know what sort of electronics we have here. See picture.

How do I test what is working / not working ?

that's just a cheap ass crossover... try metering that sand block resistor... other than that try pushing gently on the woofer on the dust cover... if it's frozen or scratches then you'll be getting those new monitors you've been wanting...
